Metrocard

In 2019, Metro Canterbury ran a competition to design a new Metrocard that would be used across Greater Christchurch.

The theme was to be inspired by Canterbury’s natural environment.

This was my opportunity to show what I personally think is special about the region’s natural assets.

The design uses the Metro colour palette. The icons represent something Canterbury is known for:

Clean water, whales & seal colonies in Kaikoura; Akaroa salmon; modern (The Cardboard Cathedral) old architecture (ChristChurch Cathedral); vinyards; flora and fauna (fantails, kōwhai, sheep, kiwi, sunshine and ocean); mountains and skiing; stargazing in Tekapo; wetlands; and Lyttelton port.

The design is universal, and can be easily adapted to any marketing purposes – brochures, signage, merch and more.

The icons form patterns that can be used to decorate bus exteriors and seat upholstery.

The design was submitted in 2019 and won 2nd place.
